Origin

Originally called the Old Cajun Squirrel Dog, this Feist was developed by Robert Kemmer by crossing the Bounce Mountain Feist bloodline with some of his smaller Kemmer Stock Mountain Curs.  They were bred for their super winding ability as their ancestors, the Kemmer Curs. A Kemmer Hybrid, are a mix of Kemmer Stock Mountain Cur and Approved Feist.  Some of the Feist used are Kemmer Feist, Mullins Feist and Barger Feist. Mr. Kemmer talked Calvin Boutte (aka the Cajun) into continuing this breeding program and that is how the breed originally got the Cajun part of its name. The rest of the name came from the fact that they are used to hunt squirrels as well as raccoons. The Cajun (Calvin) worked with what Robert gave him to help build the Original Cajun Stock, but Calvin worked off shore and had to stop breeding. Robert kept breeding them, and renamed the Old Cajun Squirrel Dog to the Kemmer Stock Hybrids Squirrel Dog and Kemmer's Tennessee Mountain Hybrids. The dogs can be now more than 75% Kemmer Stock Mountain Cur and can be no Less than 25% Kemmer Stock Mountain Cur. With the other % being approved Feist Blood. i.e. 25% Kemmer Stock Mountain Curr and 75% Mullins, or 50% Kemmer Stock Mountain Curr and 50% Mullins etc.
